Umoja on U Kwanzaa Celebration
Each year, the Kwanzaa holiday begins the day after Christmas with Umoja, which means Unity, and continues for a seven-day period (December 26 – January 1) with each day highlighting a principle that promotes family and community development. Kwanzaa is a non-religious holiday and exists to celebrate the legacy, strength and endurance of African Americans. On Sunday, December 26, The Lincoln Theatre and The Adinkra Group present Umoja on U, a performance-infused Kwanzaa Celebration honoring eight leaders in the Washington community. Performers will include BlackNotes, Farafina Kan, Maimouna Youssef, Gods’Illa and the Ballou High School Choir. Co-hosts include Entrepreneur Juanita “Busy Bee” Britton and Radio Personality EZ Street from 93.9 WKYS. The Lincoln Theatre is located at 1215 U Street NW, DC. Doors open at 5pm, program begins at 6 pm. “Umoja on U will focus on unity and community building, while featuring the extraordinary talents of vocalists, musicians, dancers and spoken word artists from our great city,”” said Jeffrey Banks, Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Lincoln Theatre. “We are honored to host Washington DC’s premier Kwanzaa celebration. In line with the spirit of Kwanzaa, Umoja on U is sure to leave attendees uplifted and inspired.”

General admission is $20; seniors (65 and older) are $15; and children (12 and under) are $10.
